April 14, 2002

Donald Prouty passes away.

2002

Large property and home are too large for Donald’s widow, Carey Prouty to care for, so she and the other owner, Donald’s brother Roger begin thinking about what their options are.

2002

LandVest Company is hired by Carey and Roger Prouty to investigate possibility of sale.

2002

Dick Perkins of LandVest brings New England Forestry Foundation’s search for site for headquarters to attention of Roger and Carey Prouty.

April 2003

Carey and Roger Prouty approach NEFF about purchase of Prouty Woods.

July/August 2003

The public is invited to community walks held at the Prouty Woods.

Summer 2003

Littleton Conservation Commission submits application for Self-Help Grant to Massachusetts Division of Conservation Services.

September 22, 2003

Special town meeting to vote on funding $1 million for Conservation Restriction on 85 acres of Prouty Woods. Meeting is attended by approximately 800 townspeople. Carey Prouty speaks on behalf of NEFF and answered with a standing ovation. Measure is voted in unanimously.

October 2003

NEFF purchases Prouty Woods. Loan for full purchase price, $2.65 million by First Pioneer Farm Credit.

December 2003

$250,000 Self-Help Grant awarded.

December 11, 2003

Open House, NEFF moves in to new headquarters.

January 2004

Three year plan for fundraising to cover purchase and create endownment begins.

October 2005

Dedication Stone honoring Prouty family unveiled at Prouty Woods Community Forest.
