Southern New England STUMPAGE PRICE REPORT COMMENTS First quarter, 2007

  • Hardwood markets are very poor
  • Red oak prices at mill reported to be $325/Mbf week of March 26th.
  • Comments on market conditions or trends: they suck
  • Please consider a comparison column for previous quarter. Thanks.
  • Oak prices fell 4 times this winter; no end in sight.   Firewood market continues strong; cold second half of winter and spring, thank God!
  • Terrible markets as mills shut down
  • Prices crashing a little more about two weeks ago; some may recover somewhat by mid-May 07…   we’ll see!
  • Sugar  maple has succumbed to this “recession” as well, going back at least a few months now. White pine still affected less but wild fluctuations exist at this time.
  • Markets poor
  • Getting worse
  • Red oak, hard maple, ash   poor;   cherry good;   outlook for summer: not good at all.
