Comments from respondents of the 3rd quarter 2007 southern New England stumpage price survey

  • Still holding off for a few weeks on putting out 4 or 5 timber/cordwood sales due to price slump…   sure hope the markets pick up better and soon!
  • Firewood market slow; appears consumers have limited funds to purchase
  • With increasing cost of diesel fuel, oils (hydraulic and bar/chain), TSI work in commercial woodlots will have to be paid for by owners!
  • Price reductions from mills, escalating fuel costs and log quotas have hurt us especially this year. When we say log quotas, we mean limitations on volume to mills we can sell due to high inventory.
  • No activity this period. A good sign I just received: a log price list from a sawmill with a log storage yard in NH. Maybe things will be picking up. I haven’t seen things this bad in logging since I started in 1974.
  • The market is the worst in 20 years!
  • Terrible sawlog market
  • Not good
  • I am holding off on harvesting due to poor markets.
