4TH QUARTER 2004 Comments:

  1. Markets are strong, scarcity of loggers to cut lots
  2. Firewood business way up – purchase from tree company, more efficient.
  3. Where can I read comments on market conditions, all markets are strong.
  4. Not much stumpage available
  5. I suggest that you provide a standard algorithm to calculate estimated species prices from lumpsum sales. I don’t have a clue how to guess the values to any degree of accuracy.
  6. Mills screaming for logs…soft ground in many, many places. Loggers are not happy – send us frost! Still some mills not paying as much for “average” white pine as one might assume. Would be the case…new “housing starts” slowed down or the mills had stocked up well.
  7. Log markets are strong , trying to procure standing timber.
  8. Strong demand for firewood this winter, prices finally have risen ($150/per cord) since 1970s!
